Hamouz honored by restaurant association

Fayrene Hamouz, associate professor in Nutrition and Health Sciences, has been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Nebraska Restaurant Association. She received the award at the association’s 27th Annual Taste of Nebraska banquet April 18 in LaVista, Nebraska. Hamouz has been active in the association’s activities for many years and serves on the Hospitality Education Foundation Board and is a leader for the organization’s Nebraska ProStart Program that provides hospitality industry training and exposure to high school students across the state.
A release from the Nebraska Restaurant Association said, “Fayrene was recognized for her long term commitment to the hospitality industry. She has devoted a great deal of personal time and resources serving as the coordinator for the Nebraska ProStart program, providing high school students an opportunity to learn about the art of cooking and managing restaurants by training with professional chefs and getting valuable classroom instruction. She has worked with high schools across the state scheduling teacher forums and coordinating competitive events in support of this excellent educational program."
