Inaugural Buffett Scholars end year with symposium

The inaugural class of the Buffett Institute Graduate Scholars program presented its research at a symposium last week in Omaha. The 2016-17 Buffett Scholars, University of Nebraska doctoral students Jon Cavanaugh (University of Nebraska-Omaha), Abbey Gregg (University of Nebraska Medical Center), and Amanda Moen (University of Nebraska–Lincoln), along with their faculty mentors, shared their findings and described the implications for the early childhood field.

Chadron teacher Uhing selected as 2017 Battey Award recipient

Impact. It’s how every professional is judged. And judging from the comments of peers and students, Chadron High School teacher Willie Uhing has a remarkable impact on his students and his school. For excellence as a teacher, leader, mentor, role model and advocate, Uhing has been named the 2017 Frieda Battey Distinguished Educator Award, presented by the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Q&A with Ellen Weissinger

A fixture on campus for more than four decades, Ellen Weissinger, recently retired from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, but slowing down is not on the immediate horizon. She began her tenure at Nebraska as a faculty member in health and human performance in the former Teacher’s College and concluded it in the College of Education and Human Science’s Department of Educational Administration. The emeritus senior vice chancellor of academic affairs has found a new challenge on Nebraska Innovation Campus, joining an agricultural technology startup.

May 2017 graduate spotlights: Special education

Q-and-As with Annie Pearson, Abbey Buettgenbach, Charlie Muller, Kayla Ramos and Presleigh Keplinger.
