TLTE's Lopez receives Swanson Award for teaching excellence

The College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) has selected William Lopez, professor of practice in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, as the 2016 recipient of the Donald R. & Mary Lee Swanson Award for Teaching Excellence. He was recognized at a campus luncheon in his honor April 18 and will also be honored at the CEHS Awards Ceremony April 22 and the UNL Honor’s Convocation Sunday, April 23 at the Lied Center.

Researchers share math program processes during Italy visit

Having concluded the first two years of a project designed to improve the teaching of math in preschool classrooms, UNL researchers recently shared their efforts with a prominent education center in Italy.

UNL faculty Ruth Heaton, Carolyn Pope Edwards and Victoria Molfese spearheaded Math Early On, a project aimed at bolstering the mathematical content knowledge, skills and self-efficacy of preschool teachers and their students.

Heaton elected chair of AERA SIG

Ruth Heaton, Gilmartin Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, has been elected to a two-year term as co-chair of the Research in Mathematics Education special interest group (SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Her term begins following the 2016 AERA Annual Meeting, April 8-12.

Kostelnik honored by LAEYC

The Lincoln Association for the Education of Young Children (LAEYC) has named College of Education and Human Sciences Dean Marjorie Kostelnik its Sally Wysong Award recipient for outstanding service to the children of Lincoln and their families. The award was presented April 9 at LAEYC’s Early Childhood Celebration at Southeast Community College.
