Pedersen collaborates with science educators in Japan

Jon Pedersen, CEHS associate dean of research (pictured on front row, third from left), returned from Japan this week after spending several days in Tokyo meeting with an international group of professors focused on improving the preparation of science teachers. Professors from Finland, France, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States assembled in Tokyo Dec. 13-15 for an international seminar sponsored by the Society of Japan Science Teaching.

Savaiano Collaborates on Art Project

Students in associate professor of art Sandra Williams’ Color and Composition class this fall completed a project to recreate works of art in a tactual manner to be displayed at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired.

Five CEHS students make Franco's List

Five CEHS seniors have been named to “Franco’s List” for being outstanding agents of character and integrity this fall. Franco's List (named after Juan Franco, UNL's vice chancellor for student affairs) recognizes students in the university community identified as demonstrating the positive characteristics that are part of being a person of integrity.

OLLI nets another $1 million endowment

Chancellor Harvey Perlman crashed an annual holiday party on Dec. 9 to announce that UNL's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has earned a second $1 million grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation. (Watch video of the surprise announcment.)

The award will be used to support the needs of OLLI's growing membership, said Dee Aguilar, coordinator of the UNL OLLI program.

Merriman elected to web governance board

Dave Merriman, CEHS web developer, has been elected to UNL's inaugural Web Developer Network Shared Governance Board. He is one of nine members of the board that will promote and administer the UNLedu Web Framework and its associated Style Book. His term will be for two years. Merriman, who was instrumental in converting the CEHS website to the UNL Web 4.0 Template, was nominated by coworkers. Positions were voted on by campuswide members of the Web Development Network.
