2012 Staff Star Award winners gather at December fete

In December the 2012 Staff Star Award winners gathered to be recognized one more time. All six awardees attended the December Staff Council function where they were applauded for they ongoing contributions to CEHS.

The Staff Star Award recognizes innovative ideas, outstanding performance, excellent interpersonal skills, and exemplary service to the college and it members.

The 2012 six awardees include Melisa Beiber, Nell Inselman, Heidi Menard, Dave Merriman, Jill England, and Diane Carson.

CEHS offers education abroad opportunities

CEHS students will have no fewer than eight study aboard programs to choose from in 2013. The countries included are Brazil, China, Costa Rica, India, Spain, and South Africa.

Graduate students led by Bill Lopez are taking modern technology to the grave

Graduate students led by Bill Lopez are taking modern technology to the grave.

After guiding classes on tours through Lincoln’s Wyuka Cemetery for more than 15 years, Lopez and students in the Master’s of Elementary Teaching program have researched the history of select graves and made that information available electronically. The information is accessed online through Electronic Quick Response Codes posted at Wyuka and a smartphone.

TMFD graduate students awarded 2012 Skala Fellowships

TCD Textile Science graduate students Yi Zhao, Shaobo Cai and Helan Xu were among recipients of Agricultural Research Division 2012 awards and fellowships. officially recognized on Tuesday October 30 at the annual Fellowship luncheon in East Campus Union. Zhou, Cai and Xu are recipients of the 2012-2013 John & Louise Skala Fellowships, recognizing outstanding performance as graduate students who are engaged in research for new industrial uses of agricultural products. The award comes with a $5000 stipend applied to the students’ assistantships.

Qiaozhu Su’s talk entitled, “Cellular stress signaling in hepatic very low density lipoprotein metabolism and insulin resistance,” will be given at noon on Wednesday, December 12, in the Columbine/Goldenrod room in the Nebraska East Union. A brown bag lunch with beverages and dessert will be provided. The talk is sponsored by the Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics.
