Secondary math student earns Fulbright, will teach in Czech Republic

Fulbright scholarship winner Mallory Slama will spend summer finishing school at UNL and, after graduation in August, will move to the Czech Republic to teach English for a year. Slama is the fifth UNL student to earn a Fulbright award this spring. Her undergraduate degree will be in secondary math education and mathematics with a minor in Czech. Besides English, she also hopes to get involved with the math department where she is teaching.

Secondary math student earns Fulbright, will teach in Czech Republic

King, CYAF, receives prestigious Frolik award

Lisa King, staff member in Child, Youth and Family Studies, received the Rose Frolik Award on April 10 at the University of Nebraska Office Professionals Association luncheon. 

This award is given once a year in honor of Rose Frolik, founder of UNOPA, to a staff member who demonstrates qualities exemplified by Frolik. Frolik was an enthusiastic, energetic person who faced life's challenges with grace and felt that how you do your work is as important the work tasks themselves.

7th TCD Biennial Student Runway Show, April 20: The Power of Fashion

NEW this year! Limited premium runway-side sponsor tickets include a pre-runway show cocktail reception and dinner hosted by CEHS alumnus “celebrity chef” and chocolatier Christopher Elbow of Kansas City and “celebrity fashion designer” Laura McGrew of TOMBOY, Inc., Kansas City.

The reception and dinner starts at 5:50 p.m. in the Regency Suite of the Nebraska Union. Dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. in the Centennial Ballroom. Students from the Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management program will put their skills to work for both the reception and dinner.

Hillestad Textiles Gallery exhibition April 9 through April 27

Wendy Weiss, director of the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery and exhibition curator, announces the First Friday opening of an exhibition titled Imperfect Pattern/Relative Embellishment, which features work by three Nebraska women artists. Pattern resonates across each artist's work with quilted fabric, embroidery, beads, structure and native materials. Artists Rebecca Williams, Phyllis Moore, and Susan Bertino explore family history and personal environment using textile materials in unconventional ways. The show runs until April 27, 2012.

Justice will present April 13 on promoting young children's literacy

Laura Justice will present April 13 on the topic, "Promoting Young Children's Knowledge About Print: Designing Systemic Early Literacy Interventions." Justice directs the Preschool Language and Literacy Research Lab at The Ohio State University.
