Minato next NGN Seminar Series speaker, March 21

 

Yusuke Minato will present “Energy Metabolism Affects Virulence Gene Expression in Vibrio Cholerae” 12:00 p.m. March 21, in 304 Leverton Hall.

Trained as a pharmacist, Minato has focused his research in the field of bacteriology. His strives to understand the mechanisms of virulence gene regulation and multidrug resistance in bacteria and to utilize these insights for developing novel intervention strategies to treat infections. He is a researcher in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, at Oregon State University.

Qualtrics Survey Software training webinar for CEHS faculty, staff, and students

Qualtrics is a user-friendly survey software program available to CEHS faculty, staff, and students. The Qualtrics training staff will offer an introductory webinar focused on creating and editing surveys in the software, including working with question types and some logic commands. Additionally, the training will cover a few common methods of survey distribution and understanding reporting functions.

Geisinger appointed to educator performance standards team

Kurt Geisinger, professor of educational psychology, has been appointed to a 28-member commission to craft performance standards for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. The commission is a 15-month commitment.

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation was created in 2010 by the merger of two separate accreditors, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

CEHS innovation technology proposals due April 1

The CEHS Technology Committee is soliciting proposals for technology innovation projects for the 2012 - 2013 academic year.

Funding for the technology innovation projects will come from student technology fees and must therefore be designed to enhance students’ learning experiences. Proposals must also include opportunities for the college to learn about and replicate innovative uses of technology.

One or more proposals of up to $15,000 will be awarded. Project proposal are due on April 1, 2012.

Omaha Illustrator Mary Mitchell Establishes TCD Scholarship and Awards Funds

Omaha-based fashion illustrator Mary Mitchell and her husband John have recently created two funds benefiting the department through the NU Foundation. The Mary Mitchell Fashion Illustration Scholarship Fund is intended to be used to provide scholarships to regularly enrolled Junior or Senior undergraduates in TCD with a specialization in apparel design.
