Zimmerman, NHS, receives academic scholarship

Shane Zimmerman, NHS junior Culinology student, received a $1000 scholarship from the Research Chefs Association.

Dr. Yiqi Yang's research featured on Lincoln Journal Star Front Page

Dr. Yiqi Yang's work with tiny nanoparticles and nanofilters made from a corn ethanol byproduct made the front page of the Lincoln Journal Star recently, evidence of a growing interest in nanoscience and a developing direction for Dr. Yang's fiber research. With the potential for revolutionary drug-delivery applications in cancer and other medical treatments, this research area is rich with possibilities, and Dr. Yang is one of the few textile engineers pushing aggressively in this area.

TCD Biennial Runway Show Friday, April 23, 2010

TCD's biennial runway show takes place on Friday April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Ballroom of Nebraska Union on city campus. The 2008 runway show "Pulse" attracted an audience of over 500 and this year's attendance promises to be as enthusiastic. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the TCD office or at the door. General public seating is non-reserved and early arrival is encouraged.

CEHS School House Supper, Nebraska East Union, Friday March 26, 2010

All CEHS faculty, staff, students and families are invited, please bring your family and join us for award winning chili from the UNL chili cook-off and scrumptious cinnamon rolls from 5:30-7:30 PM. We have reserved the east campus union bowling alley for our use only from 6:00-8:00 PM. You may also enjoy the Susan Taber Avila: Oh Naturale exhibit in The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery from 5:30-8:00 PM. Oh Naturale presents a body of work inspired by nature and the organization of nature by humans. We welcome donations with any profit going to the Lincoln Food Bank. Hope to see you there!

The Student Education Association UNL Chapter is pleased to host Nebraska's new Commissioner of Education, Roger Breed.

Breed will discuss educational goals and policies for Nebraska in his talk, "Improving the NE Education System in the 21st Century."

Don Benning, associate professor, Department of Educational Administration,featured in The Reader

Don Benning, associate professor in the Department of Educational Administration, is featured in the March 10, 2010 issue of The Reader.

Benning, has had a storied career in education. He has taught in CEHS for over a decade and is coordinator of the Urban Education program. Previously, Benning was Assistant Superintendent for the Omaha Public School District.

Raible recieves 2010 Friend of Children Award

John Raible, assistant professor, TLTE, selected to receive the 2010 Friend of Children Award, presented by the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NCAC). To cite the announcement letter, "There is so much to honor, but it is your diligence, innovation, leadership and commitment to making a difference in the lives of transracial adoptees and their families that has earned you this award."
