King recieves Silver Pen Award

The Silver Pen Award honors two office/service employees who have demonstrated superior performance while employed at UNL and who have made significant contributions to the University community. The award was established in UNOPA’s Silver Anniversary year and, as a pen is common to UNL personnel; it was named the Silver Pen Award. It is funded by the Floyd S. Oldt endowment. Each recipient receives a $600 cash award, an engraved A.T. Cross Silver Pen, a framed certificate, and a one-year UNOPA membership.

Buros staff commemorates completion of 18th Mental Measurements Yearbook

As you begin to fill your 2011 calendars, don't forget to write down the date and time of the Buros Open House. The Buros staff is throwing a party to commemorate the completion of the 18th Mental Measurements Yearbook. The open house reception will be in the Buros library on January 18, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m. All CEHS faculty and staff are invited to come and enjoy fellowship, refreshments, and commemoration giveaways and door prizes.

Graduate Student Association sponsors dissertation proposal workshop

December 2, 2010, the Teaching Learning and Teacher Education Graduate Student Association sponsored a workshop, Writing for a Committee: The Dissertation Proposal. Miles Bryant (EDAD), Heather Stuart (Ag Leadership), and Brett Schroeder (EDAD) conducted the interactive learning session with over 30 graduate students who attended.

CEHS staff members join to help alleviate hunger in southeast Nebraska

Early this December CEHS staff members came together to learn about and support the Lincoln Food Bank and Backpack Program. Speakers Scott Young and Alynn Sampson explained the goals of the program, and shared its successes and ongoing need for community assistance.

Julie Johnson, CYAF, honored with Floyd S. Oldt Boss of the Year award

Julie Johnson, chair of CYAF, has been presented with the the Floyd S. Oldt Boss of the Year Award. The award recognizes a UNL employee who has demonstrated excellence in personnel management, outstanding skills in employee supervision, and excellent interpersonal relations. Jonhson was awarded an engraved plaque and stipend, as well as a one-year UNOPA membership.

John Kennedy, CEHS graduate, returns for Alumni Masters Week

John Kennedy, 2005 graduate of the Nutrition and Health Science Department, was selected to participate in Alumni Masters Week, a program meant to connect successful UNL alumni with current students. Kennedy is a corporate chef at Blue Bunny. He joined Wells, the makers of Blue Bunny ice cream, in 2005 as the company's first culinologist. Among his responsibilities are researching, evaluating and implementing new technologies and trends in food, and creating new ice cream-related desserts.

2010 marks the 46th Alumni Masters Week.
