Jha delivers keynote at tourism conference in India

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management, recently traveled to India to deliver a keynote presentation at the International Conference on Tourism, Hospitality and Aviation. The event was hosted by Amity University Sept. 2-3 in New Delhi, India and inaugurated by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, India’s Tourism Minister. More than 800 scholars, government officials, students and industry professionals from around the world attended the conference.

Perkey vies to protect games, athletes from doping

Finger wagging. Incivility. Accusations of corruption. No it’s not the presidential campaign trail. It’s headlines on doping scandals from the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Away from the fray, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Dennis Perkey, an assistant professor of practice in nutrition and health sciences and an official doping control officer with the United States Anti-Doping Agency, is instructing future athletic trainers. And, if it weren't for a scheduling snafu, Perkey would be part of the international team monitoring Olympic athletes in Rio.

NHS student earns Gilman scholarship for education abroad

Eliza Brooks, a junior in Nutrition and Health Sciences, is one of 11 undergraduate students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The scholarship will provide Brooks the opportunity to participate in an education abroad trip to Ethiopia May 23-July 1, sponsored by the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS) in the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Hamouz honored by restaurant association

Fayrene Hamouz, associate professor in Nutrition and Health Sciences, has been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Nebraska Restaurant Association. She received the award at the association’s 27th Annual Taste of Nebraska banquet April 18 in LaVista, Nebraska. Hamouz has been active in the association’s activities for many years and serves on the Hospitality Education Foundation Board and is a leader for the organization’s Nebraska ProStart Program that provides hospitality industry training and exposure to high school students across the state.

A dozen students in the Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management program are in Augusta, Georgia this week serving as interns at the famed Masters golf tournament. They will be greeters, valets, servers, point of sale operators and supervisors.

UNL to collaborate with Oman Tourism College

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has signed an agreement with Oman Tourism College to facilitate academic collaboration between the institutions.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a partnership in teaching, research, student exchange, faculty exchange, technology transfer, publication, curriculum development, joint projects and training.

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in the Hospitality, Restaraunt and Tourism Management program, was invited to address members of the Nebraska City tourism group Destination Development Jan. 28 in Nebraska City. The workshop was a brainstorming session to develop strategies for the future of tourism in the southeast Nebraska community.
