Sehi earns ESP Mid-Career Leadership Award

Natalie Sehi, extension educator in Nutrition and Health Sciences, has received an Epsilon Sigma Phi Mid-Career Leadership Award. The award honors Nebraska Extension professional who exhibit and model excellence in leadership in the following areas:

• Career-level appropriate evidence of leadership in units/departments/teams/groups over a timeline over successive years
• Evidence of supporting colleagues in the form of mentoring, coaching and troubleshooting without reward or recognition

International Seed Grant proposals due Dec. 18

Through a generous donor grant, CEHS has funds available to enhance instruction and research through attention to international work and issues. Proposals are being solicited from faculty and staff to support coursework that includes international perspectives, research/creative work that includes an international component, or professional development activities and environmental improvements that will promote our international goals.

HRTM's Jha invited to lecture in Thailand

Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management, traveled to Thailand Sept. 10-17 to deliver invited lectures on innovation in the tourism and hospitality industries. The lecture events were hosted by two of the country’s most prestigious institutions, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thailand’s top university for graduate education at their campuses in Bangkok and Phuket; and by Prince of Songkla University in Phuket.

Resume/cover letter review hosted by Advising Center

The College of Education and Human Sciences Academic Advising Center will be hosting a resume/cover letter review day for CEHS undergraduate students on Oct. 10. Students may drop by the Hub in Henzlik Hall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a 15-minute resume/cover letter critique by qualified Career Services advisors.

“This is a great opportunity for CEHS students to prepare for internships, practicum, student teaching and graduation,” said Dallas Doane, a Student Affairs graduate student in the Academic Advising Center who is coordinating the event.

Jha honored by Education Abroad

For planning and co-leading programs to Oman, the United Arab Emirates and India, Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management faculty member Dipra Jha received a Smooth Sailing Award from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln education abroad office. This is the second time Jha was recognized with the award for his contributions to international education at Nebraska. Jha is a member of CEHS International Advisory Council, and is the first UNL faculty to complete the four-part education abroad leader certification series.

Study: Obesity may outweigh meat consumption as driver of inflammation

Red and processed meat – considered prime suspects in disease-related inflammation – might actually be aiding and abetting another culprit, says a recent study led by a University of Nebraska-Lincoln researcher.

The investigation turned up incriminating evidence against body fat, which statistical analyses suggest could account for much of the correlation between meat consumption and an inflammatory protein linked with higher risk of certain cancers.

HRTM's Jha leads luxury hospitality workshops in India

University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty member Dipra Jha recently delivered a series of workshops for luxury hospitality professionals across India. Jha, an assistant professor of practice in hospitality, restaurant and tourism management, spent May 12-31 in India as professor in residence with the Oberoi Center of Learning and Development (OCLD). The center is part of Oberoi Group, a hospitality conglomerate that owns and operates some of the most recognized luxury hotels in the world.

CEHS announces new department chairs

EDAD, NHS chairs announced

Dean Marjorie Kostelnik announced today the appointment of two department chairs in the College of Education and Human Sciences. After a national search, Nick Pace was selected chair of the Educational Administration Department (EDAD) and will begin his duties July 17. Linda Boeckner has been named interim chair of Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS). Pace is currently professor and chair of Educational Leadership in the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa.
