Carolyn Denton, Monday, April 12: Scaling Up Effective Reading Interventions

Carolyn Denton, leading researcher in reading disability remediation, will visit UNL April 12. Her presentation entitled, "Using Student-Focused Coaching to Support the Process of Scaling Up Effective Reading Interventions in Rural, Suburban, and Urban Schools," is free and open to the public.

Denton is Associate Professor in the Children's Learning Institute, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston. Her research focuses on reading intervention, Response to Intervention (RTI) models, and coaching as a form of professional development.

"Black Ocean" exhibition: Applique narratives by William Wilson

From April 5 through 30, 2010, the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery in the Department of Textiles, Clothing & Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host the exhibition “The Black Ocean: Europe - Africa - America” featuring appliquéd banner narratives documenting the complicated history of the infamous “triangle trade,” created by French artist William Wilson.

The Buros Center for Testing Conference, Lincoln, Nebraska, April 9-10, 2010

CEHS School House Supper, Nebraska East Union, Friday March 26, 2010

All CEHS faculty, staff, students and families are invited, please bring your family and join us for award winning chili from the UNL chili cook-off and scrumptious cinnamon rolls from 5:30-7:30 PM. We have reserved the east campus union bowling alley for our use only from 6:00-8:00 PM. You may also enjoy the Susan Taber Avila: Oh Naturale exhibit in The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery from 5:30-8:00 PM. Oh Naturale presents a body of work inspired by nature and the organization of nature by humans. We welcome donations with any profit going to the Lincoln Food Bank. Hope to see you there!

Roger Breed, Nebraska Commissioner of Education, April 1, 2010

The Student Education Association UNL Chapter is pleased to host Nebraska's new Commissioner of Education, Roger Breed.

Don Benning, associate professor, Department of Educational Administration,featured in The Reader

Don Benning, associate professor in the Department of Educational Administration, is featured in the March 10, 2010 issue of The Reader.

Benning, has had a storied career in education. He has taught in CEHS for over a decade and is coordinator of the Urban Education program. Previously, Benning was Assistant Superintendent for the Omaha Public School District.

Raible recieves 2010 Friend of Children Award

John Raible, assistant professor, TLTE, selected to receive the 2010 Friend of Children Award, presented by the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NCAC). To cite the announcement letter, "There is so much to honor, but it is your diligence, innovation, leadership and commitment to making a difference in the lives of transracial adoptees and their families that has earned you this award."
