Hebert featured in "Inside IES Research" blog

Assistant Professor Michael Hebert, Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, is featured in the August 31, 2015 blog "Inside IES Research," hosted by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education. Hebert was previously selected as a recipient of an Early Career Development and Mentoring Grant from the National Center for Special Education Rsearch (NCSER), a division of IES.

SECD hosts school discipline conference Sept. 18

The apparent overuse of suspension and expulsion as disciplinary consequences in schools has become a serious concern. Both the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Office of Civil Rights have communicated to educators in the last year concerns about what they believe is a consistent pattern of over representation of students who are minorities, and students receiving these consequences. The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders is hosting a one-day conference from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sept.

Honaker receives Editor's Award for research article

The American Journal of Audiology has selected an article written by Assistant Professor Julie Honaker as the winner of the 2014 Editor’s Award. The article, “Impact of Fear of Falling for Patients and Caregivers: Perceptions Before and After Participation in Vestibular and Balance Rehabilitation Therapy,” was published in the March 2014 edition of the journal. Honaker teaches graduate courses on vestibular and balance disorder assessment and management in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders.

Visiting Brazilian scholar discusses early childhood development

To mark the start of an emerging partnership between the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Brazilian early childhood researchers, the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools (CYFS) hosted an Aug. 11 presentation at the Nebraska Union by Ricardo Paes de Barros, a leading Brazilian economist.

Barros' presentation was titled “The Status of Early Childhood Development in Brazil and its Progress Over the Past Decade: Programs, Outcomes and Legislation,” and was open to faculty and students.

Hall earns Presidential Fellowship

Nutrition and Health Sciences doctoral student Elisha Hall has earned a prestigious University of Nebraska Presidential Fellowship for the 2015-16 school year. She is one of just six recipients across the NU system. Presidential Fellowships honor a select group of NU graduate students each year based on high scholastic performance and personal accomplishment. She will receive a stipend provided through the NU Foundation that allows her to pursue her studies full-time.
