Lorey Wheeler, co-director of the Nebraska Academy for Methodology, Analytics and Psychometrics, led the final presentation of the Spring 2021 Methodology Applications Series April 16.

Video is now available of her virtual presentation, “Measuring Dyadic Relationships: Introduction to Dyadic Indices and Approaches.”

In her presentation, Wheeler provides an introduction to approaches used to measure and understand dyadic relationships — the relationship between two entities, such as married or partnered individuals, siblings, parent-child or parent-teacher.

Wheeler covers important methodological issues to consider when conducting research with dyads and provided an overview of varying indices and statistical approaches that may be used to capture and understand unique aspects of relationships above and beyond the individual dyad members.

Her presentation also outlines the differences between census, or complete, network data, and sampled network data, showing how each can be used to measure social cohesion.
