The educator preparation programs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln recently received national accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

The educator preparation programs at the university first received accreditation in 1998. The programs at the initial-licensure level are now accredited through 2032.

“Accreditation from CAEP is a confirmation of our commitment to excellence in preparing the teachers of the future,” said Jeff Reese, Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “I am grateful for the effort and dedication of our great faculty and staff to ensure that our application for continued accreditation was successful."

CAEP is a nationally recognized accrediting body for educator preparation. Institutions must pass peer review of the CAEP standards, which are based on two principles: 1) solid evidence that the provider’s graduates are competent and caring educators, and 2) solid evidence that the provider’s educator staff have the capacity to create a culture of evidence and use it to maintain and enhance the quality of the professional programs they offer.

“Earning national accreditation is significant as it validates the quality of our work and highlights the collective efforts of our faculty, candidates, and community partners in preparing effective, classroom-ready educators,” said Sara Skretta, senior director of accreditation, placement & licensure. “UNL is committed to high quality educator preparation to meet workforce demands through our continued collaboration with Nebraska’s school districts, ESUs and other educational stakeholders.”

Educator preparation at the university occurs across three colleges including four departments in the College of Education and Human Sciences – Child, Youth and Family Studies, Educational Administration, Special Education and Communication Disorders, and Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education. The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts (music education) and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (agricultural education) are also part of the accredited educator preparation programs.
