Joe John, project associate in the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies , has been named the recipient of the latest Staff Star Award by the College of Education and Human Sciences Staff Council.

John has showcased dedication, thoroughness and innovation during his short tenure with CYAF. As manager of the department’s social media accounts, he has implemented creative strategies to engage with students and increased the CYAF’s social media following by 16 percent. He has also established new workflows for special projects in the department, which has allowed faculty and staff to be more efficient.

“When asked to take on a task, Joe faces it head on,” said his nominator. “He always has a solution in mind and finds a way to complete the task, even when it is difficult, time consuming, or a last-minute request.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, John assisted in the development and creation of multiple web-based projects for faculty in CYAF. Many of the webpages focused on ways to help individuals and families. He then provided trainings for faculty and staff members to help them understand website analytics and techniques.

John understands the power of community and shared experiences. As a member of the CEHS Staff Council , John volunteers his time to organize the monthly CEHS Movie Club for staff and faculty in the college. He is in charge of selecting the movie, and then leads thought-provoking discussions on the storyline and related topics facing society.

“Ultimately, Joe’s movie discussions contribute to the CEHS mission of fostering and strengthening relationships,” said his nominator.
