A retirement reception celebrating Kurt Geisinger, W.C. Meierhenry Distinguished University Professor and director of the Buros Center for Testing, will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Wick Alumni Center.
Geisinger is retiring in August after 20 years of leadership at the Buros Center for Testing. The reception, which is open to the public, will conclude Measurement with Meaning: An Honorary Symposium for Dr. Kurt Geisinger, a special one-day event celebrating his career and lasting contributions to educational and psychological measurement. The symposium is also free, but registration is required by Aug. 21.
“As I prepare to retire from the Buros Center for Testing, I find myself reflecting on just how much has changed over the past 20 years,” Geisinger said. “Through changes big and small, it has been an honor to be part of this important work.”
Since arriving at Nebraska in 2006, Geisinger has advanced the Buros Center’s reputation as the world’s leading independent authority on educational and psychological testing. As director, he has provided editorial and executive leadership for the “Mental Measurements Yearbook”, “Tests in Print”, and “Pruebas Publicadas en Español”, as well as the “Applied Measurement in Education” journal. He has also consulted on assessment issues and taught advanced doctoral seminars in the Department of Educational Psychology throughout his tenure.
A nationally and internationally recognized scholar, Geisinger has held leadership roles in organizations including the International Test Commission, International Association for Applied Psychology, American Psychological Association and Society for the History of Psychology. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, Association for Psychological Sciences, American Educational Research Association, International Association of Applied Psychology and the International Test Commission.
“At the Buros Center for Testing, we provide service to fields I have come to love, advance knowledge within those fields and share it widely,” Geisinger said. “I am grateful for the dedicated colleagues, contributors and readers who have supported the Center throughout these years and helped shape its continued success.”
