Margarita Protopopov, an audiology assistant in the Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic, is the latest recipient of the Staff Star Award given by the College of Education and Human Sciences Staff Council.

“Rita is always going above and beyond what is expected,” one nominator wrote. “She is constantly forward thinking and being at least two steps ahead of the providers. This has a huge impact on how well our audiologists can provide services to our patients and the community. An example of this is looking ahead a week or two in the schedule to make sure we have everything in our clinic for future appointments.”

In the three years since Protopopov joined the Barkley Clinic in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, she has implemented several new workflows to help the team and clinic operate more efficiently. One of those includes a new protocol for checking in and out loaner hearing aid devices, allowing the clinic to better track the devices and ensure they are being returned in a timely manner.

“She has a fantastic work ethic and makes everyone around her better,” a nominator wrote. “She is dependable and has a great working relationship with providers, students, and staff alike. She has also been a wonderful addition to our clinic, and we couldn’t imagine our work environment without her.”

Nominators also noted Protopopov’s positive attitude and exceptional dedication to her position. Her attention to detail and organizational skills help the clinic ensure each patient is taken care of at a level of excellence.

“Not only do our audiology graduate students comment on how helpful Rita is, but our patients are also commenting on the delight it is to interact and work with Rita,” another nominator wrote. “It is very clear that Rita values every interaction with every individual.”
