Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics 6th Annual Retreat rescheduled for June 9, register now

Each year the Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics hosts a free, day-long retreat for faculty, postdocs, students, staff, industry partners, and other interested parties to provide an opportunity to explore relevant topics and to network with fellow researchers in academia and industry. This year’s theme is "Computational Science Meets Nutrigenomics” and will feature three internationally recognized experts: Eric Alm, associate professor Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Melvin Reichman Senior Investigator Lankenau Institute for Medical Research Chemical Genomics Center.

Wagner exhibit May 18 through Sept. 5 Hillestad Textiles Gallery

Artist Sarah Wagner investigates invisible environmental systems such as genetic mutation, radiation, class and race. In her talk, she will discuss her most recent work which explores her neighborhood in the inner city of Detroit and the “invisible” strata, of which she has become increasingly aware. She has developed advanced patterning and sewing methods to create complex organic forms.

Wagner’s exhibit, Yard/Zone begins May 18 and runs through Sept. 5, 2014

Hamouz receives Volunteer of the Year Award from Nebraska Restaurant Association

Fayrene Hamouz, associate professor in Nutrition and Health Sciences, was presented with the "Volunteer of the Year” award from the Nebraska Restaurant Association for her work and dedication to the Nebraska ProStart Program. The award was presented at the Restaurant Association's Taste of Nebraska dinner, April 28.

Dave Van Horn, CEHS director of field services, is retiring after seven years with the college. Scharmann new TLTE chairperson

Larry Scharmann, professor of Education, will soon join the College of Education and Human Sciences as chairperson of the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education. Scharmann begins his official duties August 1. Scharmann impressed the Search Committee, members of the Department of TLTE, others throughout UNL, and our colleagues in Lincoln Public Schools with his leadership abilities, his knowledge of schools, and his keen interest in faculty, staff, students and potential partners.

Friesen retirement celebration May 5

Colleagues and friends are invited to attend the retirement reception of Orville Friesen from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, May 5 in the Buros Center for Testing’s library, Teachers College Hall. RSVP to jenny.day@unl.edu by May 1. Orville is CEHS’s “photographer of record” and has been a long-time staff member in the Instructional Design Center at Henzlik Hall. He has been with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for 45 years serving in a variety of capacities, but always with photography at the core of his work.
