Sevier leads development of comprehensive cochlear implant services at Barkley Clinic

A year ago, Josh Sevier was in the beginning stages of establishing the Cochlear Implant Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic. His vision for a team approach to providing cochlear implant services has now come to fruition, with eight cochlear implant activations completed at the Barkley Memorial Center and five more individuals in process to have surgery.

Gottner Receives Staff Star Award

Teachers Scholars Academy

Forty recent high-school graduates have been selected to join the Teachers Scholars Academy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this upcoming fall semester. The academy was created in order to grow the teaching workforce in the state of Nebraska and address the future teacher shortage. These students will mark the inaugural cohort of the academy thanks to a generous donation from the William and Ruth Scott Family Foundation.

Aphasia Awareness Month recognized by Gov. Ricketts during proclamation ceremony

Alyssa Mount, a master’s student in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s speech-language pathology program, wanted to increase the general public’s knowledge about aphasia. She found a new platform by getting Aphasia Awareness Month included in the June 17 proclamation ceremony with Governor Pete Ricketts at the Nebraska State Capitol.

“I always have a goal in mind that if we can teach at least one person in the community what aphasia is and how it can impact people, then that’s one more person who can use that knowledge,” Mount said.

Jha conferred Doctor Honoris Causa by Ukrainian institution

Dipra Jha, associate professor of practice in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management has been conferred Doctor Honoris Causa by Kyiv Cooperative Institute of Business and Law during a recent sabbatical visit to Ukraine. Jha was invited by the Institute to deliver a guest lecture for students, faculty and guests on May 6, 2019. He also met with faculty and senior administrators to explore areas of potential collaboration.
