Romagnolo to present Apr. 2 NGN Seminar Series talk at 12:00 p.m.

Donato Romagnolo, Professor member of the Department of Nutritional Sciences and ,the University of Arizona Cancer Center, University of Arizona will present a talk entitled, “You AhR What You Ate:  Linking Diet with Cancer Risk.”

The Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics Seminar is scheduled for Apr. 2, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Nebraska East Union. This is a brown bag event with coffee and dessert provided.

All interested faculty, students, and staff are invited to attend this free seminar.

Murphy to present next NGN Seminar presentation Mar. 19

Robert Murphy,  University Distinguished Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology, University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center, will present the next NGN Series Seminar talk. His presentation is entitled, “Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids: Biosynthesis and Metabolism in Human Health and Disease as Revealed by Mass Spectrometry.”

CEHS joins "March Like-Ness" Big Ten social media challenge Mar. 18-Apr. 7

March is that time of year when school spirit is in the national spotlight. CEHS is joining a new social media competition that gives faculty, students, alumni, supporters and friends the opportunity to show their school spirit and support the college. “March Like-ness” is a fun competition between colleges of education in the Big Ten Conference. You don’t have to be a bracketologist—just “like” CEHS on Facebook or “follow” us on Twitter. But make sure you do it before April 7 when the competition ends.

Beukelman retirement reception May 5

The annual Huskers for Hearing 5K Fun Run will be held on East Campus Apr. 26 at 9:00 a.m. Registration opens Apr. 11 at http://marketplace.unl.edu/sofs/student-academy-of-audiology. Cost is $30 for ages 10 and up; free for 9 and younger. Admission includes a t-shirt.

The event is organized by the UNL chapter of the Student Academy of Audiology and benefits HearU Nebraska and the UNL chapter of the Student Academy of Audiology.

UNL Education Recruitment Day is Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2014 in the City Union from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Representatives from over 40 schools in 9 states, including Denver Public Schools, AUSL Chicago Teacher Residency, and Crazy Horse School, will meet with education applicants about employment opportunities. Baer, 2012 TLTE Ph.D. grad earns, AERA SIG Award


Recent CEHS Ph.D. graduate Stephanie Baer has been chosen to receive the Arts and Learning Special Interest Group (SIG) Dissertation Award that will be presented at the annual conference of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in April in Philadelphia. Baer, who earned her Ph.D. from Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education in December 2012, researched the issue of student teacher fear in the arts classroom and how it affects students’ willingness to learn.

LaCost recognized by National Education Finance Conference

Barbara LaCost, associate professor in the Department of Educational Administration at UNL, is a recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Fellow Award from the National Education Finance Conference (NEFC).  Recipients of the Fellow Award are selected in recognition of exemplary research, practice, and policy advancement in both the K-12 and higher education environments. LaCost will be recognized at the NEFC Annual Conference, April 23-25 in Louisville, KY.
