Parallel Circuits, an exhibition at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery

Parallel Circuits, an exhibition running from December 10 to January 18, 2013, at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, evolved from the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design Graduate Seminar course Design Perspectives and Issues. With anemphasis on the evolution of Do It Yourself culture and advancements in technology, students explored the DIY culture examining historical and contemporary texts, including how to instructional magazines, online video tutorials, and personal experimentation.

Molfese and Rudasill share toddler study with local media

"The University of Nebraska launches new research trying to find out why some toddlers simply won't doze off.

Tori Molfese , UNL chancellor of child youth studies, said toddlers should be getting about 12 hours of sleep, but said some parents just can't figure out how to get that done.
“It’s one of the natural things parents have questions about,” Molfese said.

CEHS students earn five Phi Upsilon Omicron

The College of Education and Human Sciences received 5 out of a total of 45 national scholarships from the Phi Upsilon Omicron National Office (a national honor society in family and consumer sciences). This is the largest number of awards going to a single institution.  CEHS ranked first in the country in garnering scholarships for our undergraduate students.

TMFD students present designs in Honolulu competition

Two TMFD students, Yang Yu and Abby Dames, represented the department on Nov. 16 at the ITAA Juried Design Competition in Honolulu.

Their designs looked exciting and richly crafted as theythe models moved along the runway.

The award for top graduate student design went to Yang Yu for her “Mod” suit, created in Line development.

Reception for Jim Cotter, Student Services, December 6

Jim Cotter, Student Services Director and Counselor, will retire December 6 after 13 years of service with the University. Cotter started with CEHS in 1999 as Director of Student Services, a position he held until 2010. In 2010 Cotter devoted his time to counseling CEHS students.

Jim counseled hundreds of students, helping them along the path toward graduation. Thank you!

A reception will be held in honor of Cotter December 6, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Buros Library. Please plan to attend and wish Mavis well on her new adventures.

Plan to attend Hettenbaugh retirement reception Nov. 27

Mavis Hettenbaugh, Business Team member, will retire November 27 after 28 years of service to the University. Hettenbaugh started at the University in 1984 and joined CEHS in 2006. She was in charge of payroll for the CEHS Business Team.

A reception will be held in honor of Hettenbaugh November 27, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Mabel Lee Hall room 242. Please plan to attend and wish Mavis well on her new adventures.

Robert Lewis, Eppley Institute for Cancer Research, University of Nebraska Medical Center, to presen

Robert Lewis’ talk entitled, “Molecular Mechanisms of Metabolic Programming,” will be given at noon on November 28, as the next speaker in the Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics Seminar Series.  This seminar will take place in the Columbine/Goldenrod Room of the Nebraska East Union. Aa brown bag lunch with beverages and dessert will be provided.

Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design raises $8000 for Fresh Start Home

A special thanks and congratulations to those students who contributed to the fundraiser for Fresh Start Home.
