Robert Lewis, Eppley Institute for Cancer Research, University of Nebraska Medical Center, to presen

Robert Lewis’ talk entitled, “Molecular Mechanisms of Metabolic Programming,” will be given at noon on November 28, as the next speaker in the Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics Seminar Series.  This seminar will take place in the Columbine/Goldenrod Room of the Nebraska East Union. Aa brown bag lunch with beverages and dessert will be provided.

Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design raises $8000 for Fresh Start Home

A special thanks and congratulations to those students who contributed to the fundraiser for Fresh Start Home. Paul Coates’ talk, “Dietary Supplement Research Isn’t That Hard – Or Is It?” Coates is the next speaker in the Nebraska Gateway to Nutrigenomics Seminar Series. Bizarre Beasts: Staff Council invites you to explore Morrill Hall exhibit

Artist Gary Staab of Staab Studios, Inc., takes visitors on a journey back in time as they explore the forces that caused some of planet Earth's most strange creatures to adapt to different environments--and ultimately become extinct. Interactive displays showcase cast skeletons and life-size models of natural oddities. The bizarre beasts include dinosaurs, armored fish, a giant flying reptile, an ancient helicoprion, and much more.

Please bring your UNL ID for free admission. You are welcome to bring a lunch and visit the rest of the museum.

Miller returns as Alumni Master, sponsored by CEHS

Vernon Miller, part of the Thunder Clan from the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, is the business teacher at Umonhon (Omaha) Nation Public Schools on the Omaha Tribal Reservation in Macy, Nebraska. Miller was named Teacher of the Year by the National Indian Education Association in 2010, was appointed chairman of the Omaha Tribal Election Commission in 2011, and was named to Indian Country's top 40 under 40 this year. He is a 2006 graduate of the College of Education and Human Sciences, which will host him during Masters Week.

Haitian education leader will visit Nov. 7

The Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools invites you to join us for an informal conversation with Oreus Jr. Pierre visit will take place Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in 242 Mabel Lee Hall.

This is a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts about education in Haiti, and, additionally,  local efforts to empower La Montagne’s children by supporting educational improvements there.

Hanish presents "School Bullying in the Lives of Girls and Boys"

School bullying is a social phenomenon that is deeply embedded in the peer culture, a culture that has its roots in gendered patterns of interactions. Gender differences in interactional styles, exacerbated by gender segregated relationships, underlie how school bullying is manifested, impacting the prevalence of bullying and the identity of bullies and victims, the form that bullying takes, the social correlates of bullying, and indeed peers’ awareness of bullying.

Nutrition and Health Sciences Hosting Open House

The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences is hosting an Open House at Leverton Hall from 2:30 – 3:30 on Friday, November 2.  All CEHS faculty and staff members are invited to attend, and refreshments will be available.  Highlights include the new mural that wraps around the first floor, newly renovated labs, and other building improvements.

CEHS Student Research Conference Nov 2012

 

The annual CEHS Student Research Conference will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 8 AM to 2 PM in Teachers College Hall on City Campus. The aim of the conference is to give students an opportunity to showcase their work and dialogue with peers and mentors about important issues in education and the human sciences.
