John Kennedy, CEHS graduate, returns for Alumni Masters Week

John Kennedy, 2005 graduate of the Nutrition and Health Science Department, was selected to participate in Alumni Masters Week, a program meant to connect successful UNL alumni with current students. Kennedy is a corporate chef at Blue Bunny. He joined Wells, the makers of Blue Bunny ice cream, in 2005 as the company's first culinologist. Among his responsibilities are researching, evaluating and implementing new technologies and trends in food, and creating new ice cream-related desserts.

2010 marks the 46th Alumni Masters Week.

Fall Nebraska Lecture: Ready for School, Ready for Life: Creating a Future for All Children

On November 30th, Susan Sheridan, Director of UNL's Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools, will present the fall Nebraska Lecture, "Ready for School, Ready for Life: Creating a Future for All Children, " at 3:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union auditorium. The lecture is free, open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend. Please mark your calendars and encourage colleagues and students to attend.

Li-Fang Zhang: Advice for Becoming a Productive Scholar, November 19, 2010

Intellectual styles in education: Recommendations for learning and instruction

Li-Fang Zhang will speak on the topic of intellectual styles in education November 17, 2010 in Jorgensen 110 on city campus. Zhang's presentation will consider the prudence of adapting instruction to students'  varying intellectual styles.

Zhang is Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Education at the University of Hong Kong, and is recognized as an authority on intellectual styles.

NU Directions garners national recognition for campus alcohol prevention

NU Directions as been recognized as one of 12 “case histories” of effective campus alcohol prevention in Field Experiences in Effective Prevention: The U.S. Department of Education’s Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Models on College Campuses Grants, published in May 2010 by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Safe ad Drug-free Schools, Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Violence Prevention.

Marseille: White Corded Quilting, the first major display in the world of all-white quilted and corded French needlework, will explore its development in Marseilles, the fusion of technique with design imagery, and the integration of this needlework into other cultures as it was exported, adopted and re-transformed over three centuries in three continents.

Robinson to speak September 10, 2010

Dan Robinson, The University of Texas at Austin, will speak at CEHS September 10, 2010, 2:00-3:00 in Teachers College Hall 112. Following Robinson's remarks, there will be a question and answer session in Teachers College 113.

Robinson will discuss on new applications of Roediger's testing effect and test-enhanced learning research, Pashler and Dempster's spacing effect research, and clickers and team-based testing.
