Academy for Child and Family Well Being receives grants for health literacy program, postdoctoral research training

Orlando shooting prompts student affairs reflection

In the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting last month, student affairs professionals are dialoguing and asking questions about how to better equip themselves and their students to respond to and confront violence and inequity. Stephanie Bondi, assistant professor of practice in Educational Administration, was a guest last week on Student Affairs Live, a weekly online learning community for student affairs educators.

Farewell reception for Eccarius, Honaker, Splattstoesser set for July 15

The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders will host a farewell reception for Malinda Eccarius, Julie Honaker and Deanne Splattstoesser July 15.

The reception is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. in room 130 at the Barkley Memorial Center. A short program will be held at 3:30.

The Robert Hillestad Gallery Gets Major Makeover

The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery closed its doors at the end of April for a month-long renovation that saw the removal of all of the carpet-like fabric wall covering and its replacement with sheetrock, and the painting of the entire gallery. In addition, the gallery’s staging room was likewise renovated, with the removal of wall-mounted cupboards and a corresponding kitchen sink and counter ensemble that had long been inadequate to the storage and usage needs of that back-of-house area.

Registration open for early childhood bullying prevention conference

Registration is open for the June 13 Bullying Prevention Conference: Identifying and Intervening in Early Childhood at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Nebraska Innovation Campus. The conference is free and open to the public, but space is limited.

Featured speakers include Cynthia Germanotta, co-founder of the Born This Way Foundation; Dan Olweus, international scholar in the field of bullying prevention research; and Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Waverly teacher selected as 2016 Battey Award recipient

Alicia Shoemaker will receive the 2016 Frieda Battey Distinguished Educator Award at a luncheon May 27, 2016 in the East Campus Union at UNL. The award recognizes “excellence in teaching” and comes with a cash award for both the teacher and school.

MAst cohorts gather for PD workshop

Nebraska teachers who have graduated from the Master of Arts with an emphasis in science teaching (MAst) program in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education gathered for a reunion of sorts last weekend in Henzlik Hall. They spent Saturday, May 14 in a professional development day to address their teaching needs.
