CEHS students make Franco's List

Six CEHS students have been named to Franco’s List as UNL students recognized for being persons of integrity. Named for Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Juan Franco, the list is the equivalent to a Dean’s List for students who represent the six building blocks of character: caring, citizenship, commitment, dependability, open-mindedness and respect.

All of the recipients were nominated by a UNL community member, and were ultimately selected by a council of their peers, the vice chancellor for student affairs' Character Council.

Hamouz honored by restaurant association

Fayrene Hamouz, associate professor in Nutrition and Health Sciences, has been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Nebraska Restaurant Association. She received the award at the association’s 27th Annual Taste of Nebraska banquet April 18 in LaVista, Nebraska. Hamouz has been active in the association’s activities for many years and serves on the Hospitality Education Foundation Board and is a leader for the organization’s Nebraska ProStart Program that provides hospitality industry training and exposure to high school students across the state.

Savaiano awarded grant from Office of Special Education Programs

Dr. Mackenzie Savaiano, assistant professor of practice and coordinator of the graduate program in Visual Impairments, has been awarded a grant of more than $1 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs.

TLTE Ph.D. grad earns dissertation award

Dottie Bossman, a May 2015 Ph.D. graduate from Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education (TLTE), has been recognized with the Outstanding Dissertation Award by the Disability Studies in Education Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association.

Fourth Annual Huskers for Hearing 5K slated for Saturday

The Student Academy of Audiology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host the Fourth Annual Huskers for Hearing 5K Fun Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at UNL’s East Campus Loop.

Registration for the 5K costs $35 for individuals ages 8 and older. Children ages seven and under are free. Participants are welcome to register the morning of the 5K. In addition to the fun run, the event also includes a silent auction.

The College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska­–Lincoln will present its annual CEHS awards at 10 a.m., April 22 at the Sheldon Museum of Art, with a reception following. TLTE's Lopez receives Swanson Award for teaching excellence

The College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) has selected William Lopez, professor of practice in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, as the 2016 recipient of the Donald R. & Mary Lee Swanson Award for Teaching Excellence. He was recognized at a campus luncheon in his honor April 18 and will also be honored at the CEHS Awards Ceremony April 22 and the UNL Honor’s Convocation Sunday, April 23 at the Lied Center.

Heaton elected chair of AERA SIG

Ruth Heaton, Gilmartin Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, has been elected to a two-year term as co-chair of the Research in Mathematics Education special interest group (SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Her term begins following the 2016 AERA Annual Meeting, April 8-12.

EDAD grad Kane awarded for dissertation, selected ACE Fellow

Cindy Kane, a December 2014 Ph.D. graduate from the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has been awarded with the Dissertation of the Year Award from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
