Eric Unrau, CYAF Lecturer, is a 2016 recipient of the Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children's Tylenol National Child Care Teacher Award. This award acknowledges the critical role of child care teachers in providing quality early care and education.

UNL’s Tech EDGE earns national recognition

Tech EDGE, a collaborative partnership between UNL and eight Nebraska PK-12 partner school districts, has been awarded the 2016 Best Practice Award for the Innovative Use of Technology from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. AACTE will present the award to Guy Trainin and Laurie Friedrich from the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, on Feb. 25 at the group’s annual conference in Las Vegas.

High risk drinking consortium gets national attention

A CEHS housed program in the Department of Educational Psychology that has worked since 1979 to prevent alcohol and drug abuse in Nebraska was on a national stage Feb. 10. Megan Hopkins, project manager for the Nebraska Collegiate Consortium To Reduce High Risk Drinking (NCC), participated in a national webinar to rollout a new toolkit for prevention practitioners. The toolkit is a project of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies.

TMFD’s Burton awarded UNL Arts and Humanities grant

With grant support from the UNL Arts and Humanities Research Enhancement Program, Michael Burton, assistant professor of practice in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design, and William Thomas, professor in the UNL Department of History, are getting underway with a unique digital media production titled “No Ordinary People.” The short format animation will feature “Anna,” an enslaved women who in November of 1815 threw herself out of a third floor window in Washington, D.C., rather than be sold south and taken away from her husband and family. Upon completion

Ruth Heaton, the Gilmartin Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), was presented the 2016 Nadine Bezuk Award for Excellence in Leadership and Service in Mathematics Teacher Education Jan. 28 in Irvine, California at the annual conference of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE).

CYFS to lead network studying early education policy, practices

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has earned $6.5 million to shape Nebraska early childhood practices and policies, while leading a national network committed to improving children's outcomes.

The project is part of the multi-institutional Early Learning Network, a $26 million research initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences.
