CYFS article selected 2013 Article of the Year

A peer-reviewed paper from UNL’s Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools has been selected as 2013 Article of the Year by the Journal of School Psychology.

Lead author Susan Sheridan will accept the award from the Society for the Study of School Psychology on Aug. 8 in Washington, D.C., site of the 2014 American Psychological Association Convention.

Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textile Gallery to host their largest textiles sale

Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textile Gallery will host their largest textiles sale Aug. 14, 10:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m.; Aug. 15, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Aug. 16, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The sale will be held at 1339 N 37th St, Lincoln, NE 68503, which is near East Campus.



Textiles donated for sale include: yarn, fabric, upholstery fabric, designer flatfolds, designer sample books, and magazines (sewing, knitting, quilting books), craft kits, needlepoint kits, latch hook kits, sewing notions, knitting needles, household textiles, international textiles, and much more.

Nutrition and Food Update and CEHS Showcase Oct. 23-24

This year UNL–Extension, the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences, the College of Education and Human Sciences, and the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will partner to offer two days of professional development and an exhibition of research and creative work.

The 2014 Nutrition and Food Update will take place Oct. 23, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The CEHS Showcase 2014 will take place 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools commemorates 10 years

The Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools has commemorated its 10th anniversary with the release of a website encapsulating the center’s history and influence across the past decade.

The website features a dynamic timeline of CYFS milestones, a section summarizing the center’s major strands of research, an infographic-filled overview of its impact, and a chapter outlining the collaborations that have made its research possible.

Ruth Levinson's life-long work with and generosity toward CEHS remembered

Ruth Diamond Levinson was one of those rare few who had her life's work figured out at a young age. She loved sports, being outside and always knew she wanted to be a physical education teacher. With her passion for physical education guiding her, she graduated from Lincoln High School, enrolled at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and in 1931 graduated with a degree in Physical Education.

U.S. News & World Report ranks CEHS online education program No, 2 in nation

U.S. News & World Report has ranked CEHS second nationwide in online graduate programs for veterans, part of its Best Online Programs for Veterans report. CEHS online education program was the Big Ten’s highest ranked for veterans. Rutgers University was No. 12 and the University of Iowa was No. 13.

The 2014 rankings, released May 20, are in their second year and are designed to help veterans identify high-quality online degree programs that suit their educational needs.

Lineweber 2014 Freda Battey Distinguished Educator Award recipient

Roberta Lineweber, a special education teacher with Beatrice Public Schools, has been selected as the 2014 Freda Battey Distinguished Educator Award recipient. She will receive the award May 16 at an awards luncheon on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus. Lineweber was nominated by Kelly Maydwell of Beatrice, a student in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln majoring in pre-special education.

O'Hanlon, former CEHS dean, awarded with first James P. O'Hanlon Academic Leadership Award

The leadership of Jim O'Hanlon, interim dean for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, was honored during UNL's promotion and tenure celebration on April 29.

O'Hanlon was presented with UNL's first James P. O'Hanlon Academic Leadership Award by Ellen Weissinger, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, and Ronnie Green, vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The presentation was met by a long, standing ovation from faculty and staff attending.
