Mee-Mee Jackson figure skating

Meet Mee-Mee Jackson, a sophomore from Lincoln, Nebraska. Mee-Mee is a majoring in textile and apparel design with a Spanish minor.

Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I had been to UNL so many times as a kid, usually for class field trips to the Sheldon, it was so comfortable and familiar for me. I've lived in Lincoln my whole life, so being close to home and my family was really important. When I found out that UNL had a fashion design major available, there was no question.

What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?

I am vice president of the UNL Figure Skating Club, I help run our social media, and I participate in the UNL Ballroom Dance Club whenever they teach West Coast Swing. It's my favorite dance.

What has been your favorite class so far and why?

My favorite class so far has probably been Pattern Drafting. We learned all about how to create garments from scratch and how to do pattern manipulations to alter the fit/style of our garments. It gave me so many great opportunities to really stretch my creativity, and it has also given me the chance to have my work shown at more professional events, like Project Funway and Omaha Fashion Week.

What are your career goals?

My dream would be to have my own business creating bespoke ice skating dresses. I make all of my own competition dresses, and it combines two of my favorite things in life - skating and sewing. Ideally I would be able to help give back to and help grow the skating community in the Midwest.
