Section 2 - Clinical Care Policy

Students enrolled in the Preprofessional phase of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Training Program (UNL ATP) are not covered by the UNL ATP liability insurance policy and are not allowed to provide any direct patient care to anyone receiving care for an injury, illness, or disability in any UNL ATP Clinical Education Facility. However, preprofessional students are allowed to only practice clinical skills taught in ATHT 145 and ATHT 146 on fellow preprofessional students and/or Athletic Training Students (ATS) enrolled in the UNL ATP if the skill being practice is not intended for the direct treatment of an actual injury, illness, or disability.

ATS enrolled in the professional phase of the UNL ATP are covered by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln liability insurance policy. ATS enrolled in the professional phase of the UNL ATP may provide direct patient care under the direct supervision of a UNL ATP Clinical Preceptor only after the ATS has successfully completed a formal assessment of the skill first, in a classroom and/or laboratory setting, then formally assessed, and the assessment documented in Typhon by a UNL ATP Clinical Preceptor.
