Seven students in the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies officially joined Nebraska's Grow Your Own apprenticeships program for early childhood inclusive educators in partnership with Lincoln Public Schools.
The new apprenticeship program, announced in November, is providing hands-on classroom experience while fostering high-quality teacher preparation and mentorship. It is designed to address the growing need for early childhood educators by equipping future teachers with the skills and experience necessary to make a meaningful impact.
Five of the seven students participated in a signing ceremony at Lincoln Public Schools on March 13. The seven students joining the program are: Rema Al Neamah, Hser Blay, Chloe Burrows, Brenda Perez Lopez, Audrey Phillips, Nevaeh Sanders and Addi Wyatt. The program is led by Associate Professor Kelley Buchheister and Associate Professor of Practice Christine Kiewra.
Funding for the program was provided by the Nebraska Department of Education’s (NDE) Grow Your Own Teacher Apprenticeship Program.
