Jill England, graduate coordinator in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, was selected as the July 2026 recipient of the College of Education and Human Sciences Staff Star Award, presented quarterly by the CEHS Staff Council.
England provides support for all aspects of the department's graduate programs in audiology, special education and speech-language pathology, from recruiting prospective students to engaging with alumni after they have completed the programs. Her nominators highlighted England’s dedication, professionalism and organizational excellence.
“Jill consistently brings thoughtful, practical innovation to her work, improving both efficiency and the overall experience for faculty, candidates and students,” one nominator wrote. “She demonstrates a willingness to explore and implement new ideas that improve efficiency and enhance the experience of both students and faculty.”
Recently, England served on three faculty search committees while simultaneously overseeing the admissions processes for the department’s graduate programs. Her nominators also noted her willingness to help wherever she is needed for the good of the department.
“Jill is invaluable to our department,” another nominator wrote. “I regularly see her take on tasks that go far beyond her duties as graduate coordinator. Despite having so many tasks on her own plate, I regularly observe Jill supporting other staff in their duties, voluntarily, whenever anyone needs help."
Both nominators also noted England’s ability to promote a positive environment, no matter the situation.
“Jill has had a profound and far-reaching impact on our department and the college through her unwavering commitment to excellence, her exceptional organizational skills and her ability to elevate every process she touches,” said the first nominator. “She embodies the principle that every interaction matters, consistently creating a welcoming, supportive and professional experience that leaves a lasting positive impression.”
