Michael Merten, professor and chair of the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies will participate in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Department Executive Officers Program this year. Merten is one of five department leaders selected by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor to participate in the leadership program.

“I am excited at the opportunity to participate in this program in order to grow my understanding of complex, ever-changing issues in higher education,” Merten said. “I believe this experience will aid me in developing effective strategies to navigate difficult issues facing higher education and allow CEHS and the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies to be much better equipped to handle complex issues that may impact these units.”

As a fellow, Merten will attend a virtual program to learn about leadership at a departmental level, including unique perspectives and challenges regarding faculty development, performance, communication, conflict resolution, time management, and mentoring.
