Makenna Zimmerman is a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, majoring in secondary education: mathematics with a 7-12 coaching endorsement.

Why did you choose your program in the College of Education and Human Sciences?
I knew I always wanted to be a teacher since I was little. Being from Nebraska, it is hard to leave "home". So I was able to blend both of my interests in one place.

What activities and organizations are you involved in on campus?
I am a part of the IronN and somewhat a part of other education-related clubs.

What is one thing that has stood out from your experience in CEHS so far?
There are so many opportunities and resources for us to learn and grow going into our career choice. All of the professors truly care about you and treat you not as a student but want to help you and sometimes work together with ideas to make things better. Even your classmates are in the same boat and I have made some of my best friends in CEHS.

What is one piece of advice you would share with new or prospective CEHS students?
Enjoy it all, join different clubs, and ask questions. Even if I didn't make a best friend in my classes, I made some really good friends that I could talk to or do homework with, etc.

What are your career goals?
I want to able to share that math can be somewhat enjoyable by giving different ways to see it so it is not as miserable as it might seem. But ideally I want to show my students that I care about them and want them to succeed and will be there to help in any way, whether it is school related or someone that they can trust. And to make school more fun, not something you dread going to.
