Filing and Handling of Complaints/Grievance Procedures

A student or preceptor should provide, in writing, any concerns regarding the program to the program director. Following receipt of the complaint, a meeting will be scheduled between the student or preceptor with the program director. If the student or preceptor feels the program director does not satisfactorily address the concerns, the student or preceptor can make an appointment with the Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences. If the student or preceptor is still not satisfied, a meeting can be arranged with the Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences.

All student complaints will be retained for a period of seven years and include documentation regarding resolution of complaints. The records will be maintained electronically by the program director and will remain accessible only to the program director.

A student can request a review and reconsideration of disciplinary action taken against him/her. The student will notify the program director in writing of his/her challenge to the prescribed disciplinary action. If the student is not satisfied after meeting with the Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences and the Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences, the student will follow the Standard Appeal Procedure for Graduate Students. This procedure is available from the Graduate Catalog which can be accessed at: https://catalog.unl.edu/graduate-professional/policies/academic-program-requirements/.

Any student or preceptor filing a complaint related to the program will be protected from retaliation.
