Reconsideration of an Evaluation

Students will be responsible for reviewing final instructor or preceptor responses for each evaluation. A student may request a reconsideration of an evaluation made by an instructor or affiliating institution’s preceptor.

The following procedures will be followed:

  1. The student will notify the program director of his/her dissatisfaction with an evaluation within one week after the evaluation is discussed.
  2. The program director will discuss the evaluation with the student and the student can decide if he/she would like to schedule a meeting with the instructor or supervising preceptor and program director to discuss the evaluation.
  3. If after the meeting, the student feels that a satisfactory settlement is not reached, he/she may write a rebuttal statement to attach to the evaluation. The affiliating preceptor may also add comments. Both parties may review each other’s comments. A summary statement of the conference discussion will be written by the program director and signed by all parties.
  4. If no agreement is reached, the evaluation will stand as the affiliating institution’s preceptor has written it; however, all copies of rebuttals and preceptors' comments will be retained in the program files.
