Vacation, Holiday, Illness, and Leave of Absence Policies

Vacation

Vacation outside of program breaks is not allowed, but students can schedule rotation dates to accommodate their personal schedule if:

  1. All hours are completed.
  2. All assigned competencies are met.
  3. The preceptor or instructor is amenable to the schedule.

All time away should be cleared by the program director prior to the absence.

Holidays/Breaks

Students will follow the University of Nebraska-Lincoln academic calendar with noted exceptions; the program will observe most holidays and breaks on the academic calendar.

Illness

Students have a maximum of two days away from the program in the case of illness, for a total of 16 hours of supervised experiential learning missed. However, students will be required to meet competencies for that experience despite the reduced hours.

Leave of Absence

A student who needs to withdraw from the program but wants to complete the program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at a later time, can re-enter the program.

The maximum amount of time between the end of the semester in which the student leaves the program and program re-entry can be no more than one year. The maximum amount of time to complete the program is two and a half years from starting the program.

Reasons for withdrawal in good standing may include health concerns and/or family commitments. Several factors will determine when the student will be able to reenter the program, and includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • The point in the semester that the student needed to withdraw.
  • The length of time that the student was absent from the program.

The student should visit with the program director prior to withdrawing from the program to have a clear understanding of how the withdrawal will impact the ability to complete the program.
