Early results from NIH study show promise for helping preterm infants

November is National Prematurity Awareness Month, a time to recognize the challenges faced by the 15 million babies around the world who are born each year before 37 weeks of gestational age. Because these babies miss out on crucial developmental processes that happen in the womb during the last few months of pregnancy, they can face a host of short- and long-term health problems, including cardiac, respiratory and neurological complications.

CEHS Staff Council donation drive benefits Omaha's Refugee Empowerment Center

During a refugee donation drive on Nov. 13, the CEHS Staff Council collected nearly $1,000 in gift cards and monetary donations, along with two, 16-foot moving trucks filled with new or gently used donations from the community.

Eight SECD faculty and staff receive service awards

Eight faculty and staff in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders will be honored during a universitywide Celebration of Service Nov. 18 at the Coliseum.

The Celebration of Service event will feature an open house and lunch for all employees from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Coliseum. Honored employees can pick up their service awards, and an all-star photography booth will be available.

SECD faculty, students prepare for ASHA Convention

Faculty and students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders are scheduled to make 14 presentations during the annual American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention. This year's hybrid convention is being held Nov. 18-20 in Washington, D.C., with a virtual library of pre-recorded sessions available Nov. 15-22.
