Maria de Guzman and the rest of the Youth Entrepreneurship Clinics team are entering a new pilot phase that is adding an advanced technical aspect and working with local high school students.
The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders will host four open houses this year for prospective students to learn more about its graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology. In addition, the department will also hold an open house to provide more information about its master’s thesis option in special education.
The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders has scheduled six brown bag sessions during the fall semester, beginning Friday, Sept. 7. All presentations are set to begin at 11 a.m. in room 101 of the Barkley Memorial Center.
The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery will host a lecture titled “The Artists of Nathdwara: Traditions and Contexts” by Madhuvanti Ghose, Alsdorf Associate Curator of Indian, Southeast Asian, Himalayan and Islamic Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, at 5 p.m., Sept. 13 in Room 11 of the Human Sciences Building on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's East Campus. The lecture is free and open to all and will be followed by a reception in the gallery on the building's second level.

Carly Dinnes, a Ph.D. candidate in Human Sciences, and Kelly Malcolm, a third-year student in the Clinical Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) program, have been selected as recipients of the Student Research Travel Award to attend the 2018 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention Nov. 15-17, in Boston.
Rochelle Dalla, professor, received the 2018 National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) Families and Health Section Outstanding Professional Publication Award for a paper that looks deeper into the lives of the children of the red-light district in Mumbai, India.
SECD associate professor of practice Stacie Ray has been named one of three finalists for the 2018 Inspire Award for Excellence in Education. The 2018 Inspire Awards ceremony, hosted by the Lincoln Journal-Star, will be held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
With the fall semester underway, the three student organizations in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders are preparing for another year full of networking and outreach activities for both undergraduate and graduate students.
