Research builds relationships between schools, Latino families

As April Stortvedt addressed her fifth-grade students in class, a laminated poster behind served as a reminder of four classroom rules.

Be respectful.

Be honest.

Be responsible.

Follow directions the first time.

Stortvedt said University of Nebraska–Lincoln research has helped one of her students better abide by the classroom rules. Through the study, "Teachers and Parents as Partners for Latino Families," Stortvedt collaborated with her student’s parent to improve behavior at home and school.

Huskers head for Masters internships

While PGA professionals compete on the links, 24 University of Nebraska–Lincoln students and assistant professor of practice Shannon Rowen will work behind the scenes during the upcoming Masters Tournament at the famed Augusta National Golf Club.

The Nebraska contingent will represent the university’s hospitality, restaurant and tourism management program. They are part of the nearly 2,000 hospitality professionals who will provide services to participants, members and patrons during the tournament, April 1-8 in Augusta, Georgia.

Dev recognized by NIFA for early career achievement

Dipti Dev, the Betti and Richard Robinson Assistant Professor of Child, Youth and Family Studies and Extension Specialist, received a 2017 Early Career Achievement Award from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. NIFA is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the award was announced March 22 during the Federal Update and Family Life Specialists’ Awards webinar.

Graduate education programs at UNL ranked No. 40 nationally

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s graduate education program jumped three spots and is ranked No. 40 in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report national rankings that were announced March 20.

Nebraska graduate education programs are housed in the College of Education and Human Sciences. Programs evaluated for this ranking include master’s, specialist, Ph.D. and Ed.D. degrees in the departments of Child, Youth and Family Studies; Educational Administration; Educational Psychology; Special Education and Communication Disorders; and Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education.
