Jha honored by Education Abroad

For planning and co-leading programs to Oman, the United Arab Emirates and India, Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management faculty member Dipra Jha received a Smooth Sailing Award from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln education abroad office. This is the second time Jha was recognized with the award for his contributions to international education at Nebraska. Jha is a member of CEHS International Advisory Council, and is the first UNL faculty to complete the four-part education abroad leader certification series.

CEHS Staff Council President Nancy McConkey presents Brian Wilson with the August Staff Star Award.

Wilson is August Staff Star Award recipient

Brian Wilson, instructional design tech specialist, has been selected for the August Staff Star Award. Wilson hosts frequent brown bag sessions for faculty members to maximize student learning in online classes. He has also presented at online education conferences. Wilson’s work with colleagues in CEHS and across campus resulted in an online student success center for online graduate students in the Department of Educational Administration (EDAD).

International seed grant sprouts research and cultural exchange

Educational Psychology professor Ken Kiewra and doctoral students Linlin Luo and Abe Flanigan shared their research internationally this summer thanks to a CEHS international seed grant and additional financial support from the Department of Educational Psychology. Traveling to Freiburg, Germany, the trio made six research presentations at the University of Freiburg, participated in classes and planned research with world-renowned educational psychologist Alexander Renkl and two of his doctoral students.

Study: Obesity may outweigh meat consumption as driver of inflammation

Red and processed meat – considered prime suspects in disease-related inflammation – might actually be aiding and abetting another culprit, says a recent study led by a University of Nebraska-Lincoln researcher.

The investigation turned up incriminating evidence against body fat, which statistical analyses suggest could account for much of the correlation between meat consumption and an inflammatory protein linked with higher risk of certain cancers.
