Zempleni Invited to Serve as Vice-Chair on American Society for Nutrition Committee, June 2015

On behalf of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) members and the ASN Board of Directors, Dr. Janos Zempleni, Willa Cather Professor of Molecular Nutrition and Director of the Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases, has been invited to serve as Vice-Chair on the Reviews, Papers and Guidelines Committee. Members of the committee are all nationally recognized senior scientists who are expert in subjects related to nutrition. The committee consists 7 members appointed by the president of the American Society for Nutrition.

EDAD to host 5th Annual Sybouts Student Research Seminar June 12

The Department of Educational Administration (EDAD) will host the Sybouts Student Research Seminar on June 12 in Teachers College Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s City campus. The seminar will give graduate students an opportunity to present their research, connect with their peers and learn about ways student research may be supported.

NHS students land prestigious scholarships for study abroad experiences

Two students in the Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS) program have been awarded prestigious scholarships that will enable them to study abroad beginning in the summer of 2015. Maggie Dawson, a senior dietetics major, earned a David L. Boren Scholarship that will take her to Mozambique. Tau’Toya Broadway, a junior nutrition major, received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for her trip to Ethiopia.

Kelly Wacker will receive the Service to Mankind Award from the University Sertoma Club.  Kelly is being recognized for her work with Special Olympics.

Following a successful Spark Talk this spring, Reece Peterson is leading preparations for a fall conference on Exclusionary School Discipline to be held September 18, 2015 at the Nebraska Innovation Campus.  Save the date!  More information to soon follow.

First Friday Extended Hours at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery

In conjunction with the International Quilt Study Center and Museum’s expansion grand opening on Friday, June 5, the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery will remain open until 8:00 p.m. for a special viewing of Jan Myers-Newbury: A Touch of Kismet – Quilts, Color, Pattern, Chance on exhibit through September 4, 2015.

CEHS, TLTE lead the way in critical language education

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is one of the best places in the United States for education and teacher professional development in critical languages. If you don’t believe it, just ask Professor Ali Moeller. Moeller, a professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education in the College of Education and Human Sciences, is co-director (along with graduate student Sheri Hurlbut) of UNL’s STARTALK language immersion programs, which have been funded through STARTALK for the past four years.
