Bischoff and Xia speak at international conference

Yan Ruth Xia, associate professor in Child, Youth and Family Studies, was featured Jan. 7, 2015 in a question-answer article in india.com’s Daily News Analysis. The article by Preksha Malu discussed the changing structure of the family and the importance of family on the development of children.

CEHS online graduate education program ranked #5

In its annual ranking of online graduate education programs, the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is ranked fifth nationally by U.S. News and World Report. The ranking is up six spots from last year and applies to master’s in education degree programs.

U.S. News and World Report bases the rankings on several factors such as accreditation, admissions selectivity and academic and career support services. The number five ranking places UNL behind only Penn State (fourth) in the rankings among Big Ten institutions.

Larry Wichman

Wichman retirement reception Jan. 15

Larry Wichman, CEHS technical support supervisor, is retiring from CEHS and UNL, after 15 years of service. His last day on the job at CEHS will be Jan. 9, 2015, and the college will honor his service and retirement at a reception Thursday, Jan. 15. The program will begin at 2 p.m. CEHS faculty/staff, UNL colleagues, friends and family are invited to attend. Wichman began his UNL service with Information Technology Services and joined CEHS in 2001.

CEHS staff luncheon update

Nearly 60 CEHS staff members enjoyed a pasta buffet lunch catered by Noodles & Company at Quilt House. Staff Star award winners from 2014 were recognized as part of the festivities.

Leigh Esau, co-founder of Foster CARE Closet, spoke about needs of children in foster care in Nebraska and how the Foster CARE Closet program helps foster children and their foster parents receive much needed clothing.

Pedersen collaborates with science educators in Japan

Jon Pedersen, CEHS associate dean of research (pictured on front row, third from left), returned from Japan this week after spending several days in Tokyo meeting with an international group of professors focused on improving the preparation of science teachers. Professors from Finland, France, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States assembled in Tokyo Dec. 13-15 for an international seminar sponsored by the Society of Japan Science Teaching.

Savaiano Collaborates on Art Project

Students in associate professor of art Sandra Williams’ Color and Composition class this fall completed a project to recreate works of art in a tactual manner to be displayed at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired.
