The Biennial Student Juried Exhibition, sponsored by Textiles, Clothing, and Design, is a competitive show that offers students valuable experience in designing fashion for show. The acceptance rate for the exhibition was 46%.

Wendy Weiss exhibits at Museum of Nebraska Art

galleryAgainst the Sky at MONA -- Professor Wendy Weiss and her husband and collaborator Jay Kreimer are presenting their most recent installation  Against the Sky at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. The show features 5 new weavings by Weiss made with cotton, wool, monofilament, all dyed with locally sourced natural dye.

Biennial Student Juried Exhibition Opens

Biennial student show 2012

 

Congratulations to the students whose work has been accepted to the 2011-12 Biennial Student Juried Exhibition. Guest juror Dr. Elizabeth "Missy" Bye, Professor and Department Head of Design, Housing and Apparel in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, one of UNL's Big 10 associate institutions, closely examined each entry, completed a review form,  and often provided written comments along with a numerical score for each submission. Work was presented anonymously  and the juror did not know any details about the makers. This was a competitive show with 46% of the work entered accepted and 56% of the individuals entering work securing a spot in the show.

Quilts for Community project open to public January 14

Quilts for Community, January 14, 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This event will be held at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum and is open to the public.

Come observe and interact with members of the Lincoln Quilters Guild as they work on a Habitat for Humanity project. In the past six years, LQG members have made nearly 2,000 quilts and donated them to city hospitals, Habitat for Humanity, Crisis Pregnancy Center, People's City Mission, Heritage Home for Children, Bags of Love, and other agencies.

Betty-Jean Usher-Tate, graduate student in educational psychology, will talk about her experiences in Belize January 20, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Usher-Tate's presentation will be held in Mabel Lee 242.

Browning, CEHS Junior, recieves prestigious Gilman Scholarship

Kelleen Browning, Junior in CEHS, has recieved the prestigious Gilman Scholarship for study abroad. Kelleen will study German through the UNL program at the Deutsch in Deutschland Institute in Berlin. Browning is also in the UNL Honors Program.

The Gilman Scholarship Program seeks to broaden the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. It is a highly competitive scholarship.

Amy Hecker is newest "New Achiever"

Amy Hecker, a CEHS graduate, will be honored December 16 for outstanding progress in her career as as a Physician Assistant with OrthoKansas. She also is head athletic trainer for the Greater Omaha Area Training Touring Side Men's Rugby team.

The New Achiever award is given to a CEHS graduate who has shown strong performance in his or her field within 10 years of graduating.

Hecker received her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training, and a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
