The Barkley Memorial Center, home to the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus, is celebrating its 50th anniversary by hosting a speaker series and open house on Friday, Oct. 23.
The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with a speaker series at the Nebraska East Union’s Great Plains Room. Following the speaker series, an open house will be held at the Barkley Memorial Center from 4-6:30 p.m., with brief remarks at 5 in the lobby of the Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic. Both events are free and open to the public. Registration for the speaker series is required and will include a lunch voucher to use at the Nebraska East Union dining center.
The speaker series will feature three alumni from Special Education and Communication Disorders, along with a national speaker, working across special education, communication disorders, disability advocacy and related fields. The open house will provide visitors the opportunity to explore the Barkley Memorial Center’s research labs and clinical spaces through guided and self-guided tours.
